My child started to use a potty when he was 8 months. He got used to it quite quickly. He asked for it, pointed at it when needed. Everything was right till he turned 12 months. He started playing with it and refused to use it properly. What am I to do? Can anyone help?

My boys did the same thing. What I learned with my second was that, the new diapers and pull ups keep them dry, so they don't feel the sensation of being wet, and wanting to be dry! So I would put mine in underwear while we were home, only underwear, so they could feel what it was like to be wet. My youngest i used cloth diapers the whole time, so he knew what it was like, and trained quicker. Mine were around 3- so beware

Your issue is quite often. Children in the age about a year begin to show they independence and need to understand why they have to use a potty (because potty is very interesting thing! )
Specialists have determined that a conscious desire to use a potty appears not until 1-1,5 year regardless of using diapers.
However I agree that for succesfull training in use of a potty it's better to refuse to diapers wearing when you are at home.

We has quite similar history. Our son used potty absolutely fine when we were on vacation and he was about 1 year old. But things changed quickly afterwards. He is 2y 9m already, but he still doesn't let us know when he would like to use potty. So we are waiting for warm weather to start trainings and hope to get rid of nappies this Summer

My elder son has rarely asked for a potty: he or used it or not.
It was the biggest problem, but since 2-2,5 year he's used it without our help:)
So, don't warry, there is a time for everything:)

Thanks all of you, guys! I heard that the right time to get rid of diapers is after 1,5 year. But he showed his need till 1 year. Now he doesn't. That disappoints me. Moreover, if we don't use diapers, 1 hour is enough for him to get skin irritation. What to do?

Elena, I haven't met children who are completly use a potty till 1 year, but also I haven't seen children who can't do it at the age of 4. So, don't worry!
However, why does skin irritation appear? Is it because of wet underwear?

Skin irritation can be caused when the skin comes in contact with urine. Bathing or showering at least once times a day can prevent skin irritation that is caused by urine. Also barrier creams might help. Ask your doctor, in any case, what kind of skin irritation it is and what cream is best to use.
