While working with the American Association of Orthodontists ()I’ve heard a lot of rumors about braces… so I thought it was about time to spread the tooth – I mean, the truth, about popular braces myths!
Myth: If I kiss someone who has braces, will we get stuck together?
It’s almost impossible to lock braces while kissing. Also, braces are not magnetic—that attraction you feel is pure chemistry!
Myth: Traveling will be a pain—I’ll set off metal detectors at the airport.
Not true! The materials used in braces are so lightweight, they don’t affect detectors.
Myth: Statistically, braces will increase my chance of being struck by lightning.
Whether or not you wear braces, the chance of getting struck by lightning is the same. (If you’re curious, nationalgeographic.com reports your chances are one in 700,000 in any given year in the U.S.)
Anyone else know of other dental legends or jaw-dropping facts? – How about any famous braces wearers (celebrities can’t all be born with perfect teeth!)?
People say that if one is going to start using braces when he is thirty he can achieve visible results, but in order to keep it he will have to wear braces from time to time fairly all the rest of his life. Is it true?
Now that's a myth I haven't heard before, but... the AAO reports that the jaw stops growing during adulthood - so I would think that continual braces treatment as an adult would be a myth! To be sure - I would check with an orthodontist.
The same here with people, who start wearing braces being adults. Also our doctor told us that it's not worth for us to do it already - it would be better for teeth to be not ideally in line rather than disturb them all the time with braces and retainers.
After checking the web-site please make sure to return back and spend just 1 minute to leave ratings and brief feedback for it - your opinion will help other parents a lot!
